Nominate Someone


The Madame Walker Theatre Center seeks to engage the community in recognizing leaders locally, regionally, and nationally who embody the spirit of Madame Walker through entrepreneurship, civic engagement, and/or corporate citizenship. As such, nominations are accepted from the community from October 1 – December 10 each year. The nomination period opening is announced through multiple avenues including:

  • Posting on the Madame Walker Theatre Center Website, FaceBook Page, and Instagram
  • Electronic newsletter alert
  • Mailing to partner organizations, community organizations, and other arts organizations


Submission Information

Nominations can be submitted via email to with the subject header “Spirit Awards Nomination”, or mailed to Madame Walker Theatre Center 617 Indiana Avenue 46204.

There is no formal nomination application, instead, nominator should list the following information in their submission:

  1. Name of Nominee
  2. Address of Nominee
  3. Phone number of Nominee
  4. Email of Nominee
  5. Nominee’s place of employment
  6. Award for which the individual is being nominated
  7. List of Nominee’s civic engagement/philanthropic endeavors
  8. A short 250 word explanation of why the honoree should be selected based on the criteria of the award. Use concrete examples of success, outcomes, etc…
  9. Supporting letters and letters of reference are not required but may be submitted to strengthen the honorees nomination package
  10. Name of the Nominator
    (anonymous nominations are not accepted)

  13. Address of Nominator

The Madame Walker Theatre Center exists to advance the legacy of our namesake through art, entertainment, cultural education, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship and civic engagement.
