History & Heritage Center

In 1982, the trustees of Madame CJ Walker’s estate delivered hundreds of historical documents, business papers, memorabilia, and photographs to the Eugene & Marilyn Glick Historical Society. The Historical Society then curated a number of exhibits for display in the Madame CJ Walker History & Heritage Center. Located at 623 Indiana Avenue in the Walker Building, this center boasts nearly 3 dozen exhibits that chronologically depict the life of Madame CJ Walker from a child of former slaves to our nation’s first self-made female millionaire.

Managed by the Walker Women’s Guild, the History & Heritage center is always seeking volunteers to assist in operations and merchandise sales. To volunteer, please contact Fran Mayes at FMayes@thewalkertheatre.org or call 317-236-2099
